Evento: San Diego County Optometric Society (SDCOS) Meeting:
Angle-Closure Glaucoma Lecture
Fecha: 12 de febrero de 2026
Vocero: Dr. Lee Katzman, MD
Ubicación: WestPAC Headquarters
Dr. Lee R. Katzman recently had the honor of kicking off the year as a featured speaker at the San Diego County Optometric Society (SDCOS) meeting. Presenting to an audience of over 100 local eye doctors and medical professionals, Dr. Katzman shared his clinical expertise to help foster community collaboration and advance patient care across the San Diego region.
Sharing Expertise on Angle-Closure Glaucoma During the meeting, Dr. Katzman delivered a comprehensive, hour-long lecture focused specifically on angle-closure glaucoma. While open-angle glaucoma is more common, angle-closure glaucoma (also known as closed-angle glaucoma) is a more sudden and severe condition. It occurs when the iris bulges forward to narrow or block the drainage angle formed by the cornea and iris. As a result, fluid cannot circulate through the eye properly, leading to a rapid and dangerous spike in intraocular pressure.
Because angle-closure glaucoma can develop quickly and poses a severe threat to a patient’s vision, early detection is absolutely vital. By educating fellow doctors on the latest diagnostic criteria and management strategies, Dr. Katzman helps ensure that patients in the community receive swift, accurate diagnoses and immediate care when they need it most.
A Commitment to Collaborative Eye Care A major theme of Dr. Katzman’s presentation was the importance of collaborative care. When community optometrists and specialized ophthalmologists work closely together, patients experience a more seamless healthcare journey.
“I am incredibly grateful for the invitation and for the chance to collaborate, share knowledge, and continue advancing patient care together,” Dr. Katzman shared following the event. This team-based approach ensures that from the moment a patient sits in the exam chair for a routine eye exam to the moment they require advanced surgical intervention, they are in highly capable, coordinated hands.
Leadership in San Diego Ophthalmology As a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist and a premier surgeon at Alvarado Eye Associates, Dr. Katzman is deeply committed to both his patients and the broader medical community. Whether he is performing premium laser cataract surgery, offering advanced refractive lens exchanges, or educating his peers on complex ocular diseases, his dedication to state-of-the-art care remains at the forefront of his practice.
